Rockingham
Our largest campus south of Fremantle, Rockingham campus offers a wide variety of courses - from community services to construction, we have the course for you.
We offer a range of construction courses including plumbing and gas, fabrication and engineering. A purpose-built workshop houses delivery for fabrication and mechanical fitter and machinist training and is equipped with contemporary equipment to ensure students and apprentices receive industry-relevant training and gain hands-on experience. The modern building and construction workshop facility hosts the purpose-built plumbing workshop with a state-of-the-art backflow training and assessment area meeting contemporary industry needs.
Rockingham campus is also home to childcare, education support, community services, nursing, information technology and business and finance training and the Kadadjini-Mia cultural space.
Facilities
Students at our Rockingham campus can access SM TAFE’s library services remotely.

The cafeteria is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 4pm during term times with reduced hours during term breaks. A range of food and drink is provided.
Vending machines are available on site for drinks and snacks and a small kitchen with fridge is available.
Rockingham campus features one of the state's Jobs and Skills Centres, where free career development advice and job opportunities can be explored by students and the general public.
The campus also hosts the Kadadjiny Mia Centre for Aboriginal Learning, which aims to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders at TAFE.

We recommend all visitors to campuses take advantage of our Smart Travel information to ease congestion on and around our campuses.
Parking
Rockingham campus has parking available for students with parking permits surrounding the campus buildings. Students studying construction trades and fabrication should enter via Dixon Road, while other students should access parking at A block via Education Drive. Bollards are in place between these two zones during campus opening hours.
Public transport
Rockingham campus enjoys bus stops on Dixon Road connecting Rockingham campus with the train station and with bus services to Fremantle. Visit Transperth's Journey Planner, using South Metropolitan TAFE Rockingham campus as a landmark to plan your trip or collect a timetable from the Customer Service Centre on campus.

Are you a gas fitter? The Gas Legislation and Safety course will provide you with the Gas Fitting Permit to Work Under Supervision. It comprises of three components, WA Gas Regulations, Gas Safety and Basic Combustion and Flueing.
Successful completion of the final assessment will be needed to receive a completion letter that is required by Building and Energy to apply for a Gas Fitting Permit to Work Under Supervision.

Set down the ground work for your career
The Certificate II in Drainage is suitable for people working in the plumbing industry that specialise in ‘ground works’. South Metropolitan TAFE trains and assesses the Certificate II in Drainage at Rockingham as part of our general plumbing training program.
The standard term for a contract is 18 months. Achieving this qualification is a good stepping stone towards completing a full plumbing qualification.

This course is designed for people who are already working in an allied trade and have pre-existing skills.

This course is designed for people who are already working in an allied trade and have pre-existing skills. All students must already hold a Gas Fitting Permit to Work Under Supervision from Energy Safety WA (SMTAFE can arrange this) Students will need to record 250 hours of Gas Fitting with a Licensed Gas Fitter in WA as per Energy Safety requirements before they will be issued a permit to work unsupervised. These hours can be accumulated as soon as an individual has a Gas Fitting Permit to Work Under Supervision and are not required for the completion of the Certificate III.
People completing the course will have the skillset needed to work competently as a G class permit holder on all NG and LPG gas installations in WA and can apply to Energy Safety WA for a G class permit to work unsupervised as soon as they have recorded 250 hours.
