Certificate III in Barbering
Learn how to become a barber while still working as hairdressing apprentice. This course is offered one day a week at our training salon.

Want to be a cut above the rest?
Do you want to become a barber? This qualification is delivered on campus one day a week, so it allows you to study while working at a hairdressing salon as an apprentice.
Gain these skills:
- sales, consultation and technical skills
- broad range of barbering services to clients
- using discretion and judgement to provide client services
- taking responsibility for work outcomes
You will be required to participate in our Student Training Salon that is open to the public, with real, paying clients. This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber-shop or salon.
Recognition of Prior Learning is available for this qualification to qualified hairdressers.

Certificate III in Beauty Services
Gain the skills and knowledge to work across a broad range of positions in the beauty industry. Train in a student beauty clinic.
Do you love all things beauty and have a great eye for style and glamour? This course is your first step to beginning your career in the vibrant and exciting world of beauty.
Be guided by our expert team of lecturers who are experienced industry professionals as you learn the fundamentals of providing a range of beauty treatments including nails, waxing, lash and brow, spray tanning, eye lash extensions and make-up services. You’ll be trained using professional product ranges such as Dermalogica skin care, MAC, Crown, Kryolan and LA girl makeup.
In this course you’ll also grow your customer service skillset, learning to engage with clients and create a positive client experience from greeting and preparing on arrival through to advising on beauty products and treatments.

Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy
Learn the skills and beauty treatments to become a beauty therapist. Train in a student beauty clinic.
When you complete the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy you will be looking at a career as a beauty therapist in a beauty salon, cruise ship or even your own home salon.
Be guided by our professional and passionate team of lecturers who are experienced industry specialists. You’ll learn how to provide a range of beauty treatments, including facials and specialised facials for glowing skin, as well as body massage and aromatherapy massage for ultimate relaxation. Develop your manicure and pedicure skills, gain skills in popular services such as waxing, lash and brow tinting and lifting, spray tans, eyelash extensions and professional make-up application.
Grow an understanding of retail operations for the beauty industry and establish a customer service skillset, learning how to create a positive client experience and leave a lasting impression. Diploma of Beauty Therapy
Learn the dermal science behind beauty therapy including laser skin and hair removal.
Are you interested in a rewarding career as a beauty therapist? This diploma opens graduates to a range of employment opportunities such as working in a spa salon, a beauty salon, cruise ships, or working at home for yourself. It is also a pathway to Advanced Dermal Science qualifications.
This course provides theory training in IPL and LASER units which gain you the Laser Safety Officer Certificate required to work with these modalities in industry. Along with a dermal science and advanced skin care treatment focus.

In this course you will learn skills in eyeliner, eyebrow and lipliner tattooing using a tattoo machine (microblading is not included in this course). Health and hygiene regulations for this industry are included in this course and you will be taught by an industry leading tattoo artist. A tattoo machine is included in the cost of your course.

During this 4 week “Introduction to Millinery” course you will learn how to block, shape, and manipulate sinamay straw.
You will learn the basics of couture hat making:
- How to stiffen, steam and stretch felt over a wooden block
- How to wire a hat to ensure it holds its shape
- How to attach a hat using wire, headband, combs, and elastics
- How to use materials in an efficient and economical way
- After blocking a hat, you will proceed onto trimming and decorating
- All students will complete one hats to take away.
All students will gain invaluable millinery skills, allowing them to make hats on their own.

Learn to style make-up and hair for film, fashion, television and theatre

Lights, camera, action! Do you have a dream to become a stylist to the stars? SM TAFE is launching this new make-up qualification to help you begin your journey as a specialised make-up artist and/or hair and wig stylist in the fields of film, fashion, television and theatre.
During this course you will be trained by industry specialist Manuao TeAotonga who has recently worked on Disney Australia’s touring production of Frozen, and designed makeup for famous musicals such as The Addams Family (Zealous Productions), The Little Mermaid (HAMA Productions), Wizard of Oz (HAMA Productions), and more.
Manuao is one of Perth’s leading make-up artists and he also performed on the stage for over 30 years around Australia, with his love of make-up leading him to work behind the scenes transforming the stars.

Learn to apply Hybrid and 3D Volume eyelash extensions professionally.
This short course will train students in how to make fans and apply 3d to 5d hybrid and volume lashes for added length and thickness of natural lashes. This course has been designed to meet the beauty industry demand for lash extensions to work in the industry. Students must have completed a classic lash course prior to enrolling, including the application, infill and removal of classic lash extensions.
