Baldivis woman wins Apprentice of the Year Award

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Apprentice carpenter Breanna Morgan, of Baldivis, has been awarded South Metropolitan TAFE (SM TAFE) Apprentice of the Year, by completing a CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry

Following her passion to build her dream career at the age of 27, Breanna’s top achievement proves that the days of carpentry being a male-dominated trade have gone.

Breanna said that she had always wanted to be a carpenter even after years of university study.

“I always knew that in my heart-of-hearts that carpentry was my passion and I chose SM TAFE Rockingham campus due to the quality facilities.”

Brianna hopes to use the skills, knowledge and experience she has gained over the course of her apprenticeship to pursue her interest in Tiny Homes, an architectural and social movement that promotes smaller homes and living spaces, which she claims is the future of living.

SM TAFE program manager and award panel chair David Robinson said Breanna’s study commitment and passion for the industry made her a worthy recipient of Apprentice of the Year.

“Breanna is a prime example of the type of person that the carpentry trade needs in Western Australia,” he said.

“She is highly motivated, has an amazing attitude and work ethic, and takes great pride in all she sets out to achieve.”

SM TAFE’s Student Awards recognise the achievements of students from across the college, including winners in the categories Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year, International Student of the Year, Trainee of the Year, Vocational Student of the Year, VET Secondary Student of the Year, and the Culturally Diverse Student of the Year Award.
