The Certificate II in Aeroskills course is designed to deliver both theoretical and practical knowledge enabling you to gain a solid foundation of both the knowledge and skills required to enter into an aviation maintenance career.

South Metro TAFE's AeroSpace Training Centre is the largest provider in WA offering training in aircraft maintenance and aviation. Our lecturers have diverse industry backgrounds including international licensed aircraft maintenance engineers, airline transport pilots, airport managers, flight instructors, cabin crew training managers, emergency procedures instructors, RAAF maintenance supervisors, as well as military and commercial aviators and managers.

The fully equipped hangar of the AeroSpace Training Centre at Jandakot Airport has various aircraft engines, workshop stations, computer facilities, a flight simulator, and a number of aircraft including our own Boeing 737.

Study plans can be created to take in streams including helicopter turbine, helicopter piston turbine, turbine fixed wing, turbine fixed wing structures, piston fixed wing pressure-328, helicopter piston-327, piston fixed wing pressure-401, turbine fixed wing turbo fan and piston fixed wing unpressurised.

  • Broad algebra including expressions, multiplication and division, fractions, linear equations, indices and powers, binary and logarithms

  • Electrical cabling and connector application including crimp tools and co-axial cables, testing and installation
  • Rivets, pipes, hoses, springs, bearings, transmissions and control cables and their inspection and testing

CASA Part 66 Module 8 builds upon basic physics knowledge, extending knowledge into knowledge of atmospheric physics using the International Standard Atmosphere (ISA), application to aerodynamics.

  • Concepts including airflow, camber, chord, drag types, pressure, angle of attack, wish in and out, wing shape and aspect ratio, thrust, lift, polar curve and stall
  • Flight theory relationships between lift, weight, thrust and drag
