Aerospace Training Centre
South Metropolitan TAFE's AeroSpace Training Centre is the largest provider in WA offering training in aircraft maintenance and aviation. Our lecturers have diverse industry backgrounds including international licensed aircraft maintenance engineers, airline transport pilots, airport managers, flight instructors, cabin crew training managers, emergency procedures instructors, RAAF maintenance supervisors, as well as military and commercial aviators and managers.
The fully equipped hangar of the AeroSpace Training Centre at Jandakot Airport has various aircraft engines, workshop stations, computer facilities, a flight simulator, and a number of aircraft including our own Boeing 737.

Entrance requirements for apprenticeships
You must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study an apprenticeship or traineeship.
An apprenticeship involves full time work with an employer who provides an opportunity to learn all aspects of a trade. This is a structured program for a fixed period of time and while you learn on the job, you also attend off the job training at SM TAFE.

Attendance in class
This course is equivalent to 5 days per week (for up to 8 weeks per year for the first 3 years) when studied part time over 48 months.
At-home study
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 15 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research.
You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.
Work placement
Students are expected to engage in learning through 2000 hours of on-the-job employer training (Apprentices/Trainees) and 500 hours of unsupervised activities including logbook (LOIE), research, assignments and research.
What you need
On your first day you should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID, industry exams, stationery (pen, pencil, exercise book, eraser, folder for notebooks and handouts) and wear enclosed footwear.
Industry uniform is required to be worn at all classes, including steel capped boots.
