The Certificate IV in Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies provides the academic knowledge for entry into the Diploma of Nursing.

- If your plan is to continue study following this course, you should read the entry requirements for the HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing including literacy and numeracy testing to meet minimum standards as set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board.
- Completion of the Certificate IV in Preparation for Nursing is not a guaranteed entry into the Diploma of Nursing with high demand making the applications for the course subject to competitive assessment, but it does greatly increase your chances with the introductory skills and knowledge that lead to a nursing career.
Full time
Attendance in-class
You will be expected to attend class 2-3 days per week over one semester at your assigned campus.
At-home study
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research. There is an online reading component to this course and as such, you should be computer literate and have available computer and internet access.
You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.
Work placement
Work place is not a requirement of this course.
What you need for your first day of class
On your first day you should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID, stationery (pens, exercise book, highlighters) and wear enclosed footwear. Any texts and resources will be given to you in your classes.
Self Paced
Attendance in-class
You will be expected to participate in classes either via online participation or in-class at Bentley campus one evening per week over one semester to complete part of the course or attend two evenings per week to complete the full qualification.
At-home study
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 20 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research. There is an online reading component to this course and as such, you should be computer literate and have available computer and internet access.

Work placement

You should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID, stationery (pens, exercise book, highlighters) and wear smart, casual clothing and enclosed footwear.
