Learn to fly with a reputable training provider at Perth’s major general aviation airport at Jandakot. SM TAFE has delivered pilot training in Perth for 42 years from its specialist hangar and annex, offering students the opportunity to become commercial pilots under the careful supervision of industry-connected lecturers.

Train with like-minded people at our AeroSpace Training Centre (ASTC) where a range of aviation courses are delivered from pilot studies to cabin crew to ground operations and aircraft maintenance. Students have access to connected classrooms, a learner resource centre with computers and wireless internet resources, computer-based training modules, various aircraft engines and workshop stations.

Our commercial pilot courses will give you the theoretical knowledge to help prepare you for the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) written exams. Learn about different aircraft, aerodynamics, meteorology, aeroplane performance, navigation, flight rules, radio telephony, as well as additional training such as aviation First Aid, basic fire extinguisher training, and more.

Do you have sky-high ambition to be a commercial pilot?

Make the Perth skies your next office window with the skills and knowledge to become a commercial aircraft pilot. Learn to fly light piston aeroplanes including knowing how to perform in normal and emergency conditions. 

Our commercial pilot’s course enables you to reach toward certification as a commercial pilot through Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)’s Part 61 Flight crew licensing regulations. We offer training full time that integrates your theory study at campus with flying time located at Jandakot airport. 

You will complete 600 hours of theory and flying time in a range of conditions and times of day to prepare you for a diverse aviation career. Our lecturers work with you to help you traverse a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations; and how to use your autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility for an extensive range of scenarios that you might face in the skies.

Take your career to the skies with the skills and knowledge to become a commercial helicopter pilot. Learn to fly light piston helicopters including knowing how to perform in normal and emergency conditions.

Our commercial pilot’s course enables you to reach toward certification as a commercial pilot through Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)’s Part 61 Flight crew licensing regulations. We offer training full time that blends your theory study at campus with flying time located at Jandakot airport.

Outside of class time, you will complete 600 additional hours flying in a range of conditions and times of day to prepare you well for a diverse aviation career and increasing your employability. Our lecturers work with you to help you traverse a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations; and how to use your autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility for an extensive range of scenarios that you might face in the skies.

Obtaining a remote pilots licence is the first step to being able to operate remotely piloted aircraft systems, otherwise known as drones or UAV's for commercial or business purposes without weight operating restrictions. 

This course equips students with the skills to command a sub two-kilogram drone aircraft, which lays the foundations for entrepreneurial endeavours including filming for weddings and advertising. Students can pursue a career in aviation and develop industry leading skills within the remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) industry, then progress to fly larger RPAS with further qualifications.
