The SM TAFE globally recognised maritime campus is situated in the port city of Fremantle. It has provided internationally renowned maritime vocational training in coastal and ocean seafaring for over twenty years.
Recently, the maritime team was honoured to host 2 VIP guests from the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard Division for a five-week study program.
The VIPs completed an International Maritime Organisation (IMO) recognised training course, and refresher training in Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) simulators.
The participants enjoyed and benefited from the training provision, and are planning to continue collaboration with SM TAFE into the future, cementing enhancing the important partnership across the waters.
This was the second visit to the maritime campus by the Royal Oman Police, following a successful bespoke upskilling training program in 2019. Two Captains, who have since both progressed up the ranks of the Oman Coast Guard to the role of Officer, attended the training.
The success of the visits is testament to the high calibre of the SM TAFE training, world-class facilities and expert lecturer guidance provided in seafaring. The ability to tailor training programs for global partnerships is a great strength of the team. Workplace development solutions have also been provided for partnerships with organisations such as Shell, Rio Tinto, BHP and INPEX.
On a grassroots level, students can gain skills at SM TAFE, that may secure a dream job at sea. Set your eyes on becoming a watchkeeper, able seafarer, marine engineer, master or chief mate!
The maritime campus provides some of the most comprehensive facilities for training in Australia, integrating simulator technology, a fleet of three vessels, biological and computing laboratories, and engineering, seamanship and aquaculture workshops.
