MARSS00008 Shipboard Safety Skill Set

The Elements of Shipboard Safety skill set is a prerequisite for employment on board commercial vessels in domestic waters. This skill set will equip you with the knowledge and skills to operate safely on board a vessel.

Please note:

  • It is a requirement that men be clean-shaven for the practical component of the fire fighting. Facial hair can affect the sealing capability of the face mask during fire training. 
  • Certification from the college must be lodged using AMSA form 419 through an AMSA allocated Post Office and there will be a fee involved. 

This course runs for 3 days at our Fremantle campus and half a day's practical training offsite at maritime training specialist facility, ERGT at Jandakot.

2021 dates:

  • Term 1, starts 2 March
  • Term 2, starts 10 May
  • Term 3, starts 23 August
  • Term 4, starts 1 November

In order to achieve your AMSA certificate you will be required to hold a Senior first aid certificate with unit code HLTAID003. This will be required to be presented on the first day of class to the lecturer.

This approach may include a mix of online and classroom based delivery, as well as practical and work experience placements.
