During this 4 week “Introduction to Millinery” course you will learn how to block, shape, and manipulate wool felt.
You will learn the basics of couture hat making:
- How to stiffen, steam and stretch felt over a wooden block
- How to wire a hat to ensure it holds its shape
- How to attach a hat using wire, headband, combs, and elastics
- How to use materials in an efficient and economical way
- After blocking a hat, you will proceed onto trimming and decorating
- All students will complete one (maybe 2!) hat to take away.
All students will gain invaluable millinery skills, allowing them to make hats on their own.
What to bring
Students will be required to purchase the following materials/equipment for the first class. Items are available to purchase on campus at Design Lines shop.
- Felt Cone or Brim
- Sinamay or Raffia padded headband
- All other materials will be provided.
