This course is for Master less than 24 meter candidates. The National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D—Crew Competencies requires that a seafarer pass a final assessment prior to the issue of a certificate of competency. 

The AMPA is a practical assessment of whether the applicant has appropriate operational skills and knowledge, and knowledge of Australian maritime legislation.

This qualification is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry as a Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 3000kW in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Licensing/Regulatory Information:- This level of qualification is currently cited as meeting some of the requirements for certification as an engineer Class 3 Near Coastal as defined by the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D.

Successful completion of this qualification will provide you with some of the requirements for certification as an Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal as defined by the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D. Certification will require achievement of the Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Engineering Class 3 Near Coastal), qualifying sea service and completed Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) approved task book or qualifying sea service or qualifying sea service and a workshop skill equivalent qualification, AMSA final assessment and an AMSA approved first aid certificate; people seeking certification should check with AMSA. Certification will also require either Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 Near Coastal) or a trade (as specified in NSCV Part D).

Scuba Dive in Open Water to a Maximum Depth of 18 Metres Skill Set

This entry level SCUBA diving course teaches beginners how to dive in a safe and enjoyable manner. Once qualified, you are able to dive to a maximum depth of 18m (60ft) with another person of similar qualification or higher.

The course is held over 4 days, including a day of dive theory and equipment familiarisation, a day of learning dive skills in a controlled environment such as a swimming pool, and 2 days of diving in the ocean (with one of these days aimed to include diving off of our diving vessel, the Maritime Image).

This is a PADI certification.

    Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Integrated Rating)

    The Integrated Rating (IR) course is an entry-level qualification to equip new entrants into the maritime industry with practical skills and knowledge in general shipboard operations of merchant ships. This course is the AMSA approved pre-sea training course required (along with the AMSA required sea service) for issuance of the AMSA Integrated Rating Certificate of Proficiency. Integrated ratings steer a vessel under the direction of the officer of the watch and work in the engine room under the direction of engineering officers.

    This course is available as a traineeship.

    Entrance requirements for traineeships

    You must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study an apprenticeship or traineeship. 

    In a traineeship you also gain hands-on skills and work experience, and improve your employment prospects, while earning a wage. On successful completion you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to rewarding career options. The difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship is that a traineeship can be either a full time or part time employment based training arrangement, usually for a nominal duration of 12 months or more, generally in a non-trade related area.

    Coxswain's can gain employment in the small vessel sector in commercial workboats, fisheries, fishing, tourism and aquaculture.

    This qualification is suitable for people who want to command and operate a vessel less than 12 metres long with unlimited outboard engine propulsion, or inboard engines less than 100 kilowatts.

    • This qualification is suitable for people who work as a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal in the maritime industry and Command a Commercial Marine Vessel which is up to 12 meters in length. The propulsion power must be unlimited for an outboard engine or up to 500 kW for an inboard engine.  Vessel: inshore or as a tender or auxiliary vessel within 3 nautical miles (nm) of a parent vessel within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
