Council Member Essentials is a five unit training program that local government council members are required to complete within 12 months of being elected. The purpose of the training is to provide practical information that will help you become familiar with the skills, knowledge and responsibilities of your role as a councillor. The course outlines information you will need to know about the way Local Government works in Western Australia under the Local Government Act 1995 and explains in simple terms important information to assist you in the performance of your duties as a councillor.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning mechanics work with the cooling systems that regulate our temperature over our long hot summers. Work can involve maintaining and repairing individual units, all the way to engineering elaborate cooling systems. Mechanics install, service and repair cooling systems, including split systems, and work with Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) systems.

Fabrication

Metal fabricators (boilermakers) and welders build, maintain and repair metal products and structures. Learn the skills and knowledge required to manufacture, assemble and maintain mining structures, heavy transport and earth moving equipment, bridge building, engineering components, building structures, refineries, oil-rigs, storage vessels, shipbuilding and agricultural equipment. Duties may include fitting, assembling and joining aluminium, steel and other metals.

Mechanical

Comprises trade training as machinist metal, mechanical fitter, metal plating and plant mechanic where you’ll learn practical skills to make and repair machines, parts and tools.

Machinists are responsible for the maintenance, repair and manufacture of metal products and machinery. Machinists use a variety of equipment to create new and replacement parts. Study pathways encompass a variety of streams and specialities, including fitting and machining, fluid power and computer numerical control (CNC).

Council Member Essentials is a five unit training program that local government council members are required to complete within 12 months of being elected. The purpose of the training is to provide practical information that will help you become familiar with the skills, knowledge and responsibilities of your role as a councillor. The course outlines information you will need to know about the way Local Government works in Western Australia under the Local Government Act 1995 and explains in simple terms important information to assist you in the performance of your duties as a councillor.

This skill set is part of the MEM50212 Diploma of Engineering - Technical, a nationally recognised qualification. You will gain experience in producing industry standard 2D and 3D Engineering Drawings and gain a working knowledge of appropriate standards while learning Autodesk’s AutoCAD drafting system. Construct your future 

Looking for the skills to participate in the creation of infrastructure facilities such as roads, railways, buildings, water reservoirs, subdivisions, airports, bridges, sewer systems, tunnels, dams and other public works? Establish yourself in this expanding industry and step towards a future in civil construction management with the Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design. This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for the roles of senior civil works designers, or para-professional designers who support professional engineers.  Once graduated, you will have the expertise to to perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex, technical, and include strategic areas and initiating activities. The Diploma of Civil Construction Design reflects the role of personnel working as designers or design para-professionals who support professional engineers. They perform tasks involving a high level of autonomy and requiring the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment/roles/techniques for themselves and others. They are required to develop site specific work designs to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements. They demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills.

The course content has been designed and selected as recommended and supported by industry to ensure graduates have a strong understanding of Australian standards, business practices, national codes and guidelines.

  • Schedule and estimation of construction tasks
  • Calculate foundation and footing requirements

Flexible delivery!

For those of you already working in the industry, this course is delivered full time as well as part time, along with flexible learning delivery modes to support full-time workers. Evening delivery will support people unable to attend day classes to obtain a Civil Engineering Diploma qualification, in order to enhance career ambitions and to build and update your knowledge and skills in this rapidly changing industry.
