Gain the skills to prepare for a career helping others in your community. 

You will learn to work effectively and appropriately with individuals and groups in a diverse range of community organisations. This introductory course will also help you learn community advocacy and development.

Job ready skill sets are 100% free for the following eligible students:

  • People aged 15—24 years at the time of enrolment (excluding school students)
  • Secondary school-aged people who are not enrolled at school
  • People receiving the JobSeeker or JobKeeper payment
  • People and dependents of people receiving the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • People and dependents of people holding:
    -  pensioner concession card or Health Care Card; or
    - a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs
  • Dependents of people who are inmates of a custodial institution

We will evaluate your literacy and numeracy skills prior to enrolment to ensure that you have the minimum literacy and numeracy skills to complete this study successfully. The minimum skills required are level 2 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).   • In addition, the industry preference is that students are over 21 years of age as there is a requirement for graduates to work maturely with clients.

  • Completion of CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent industry experience is preferred prior to commencing this course.  
  • If you do not meet the entry requirements of CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services, we recommend applying for CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services.

   

This course is available as a traineeship.

Entrance requirements for traineeships

You must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study an apprenticeship or traineeship. 

In a traineeship you also gain hands-on skills and work experience, and improve your employment prospects, while earning a wage. On successful completion you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to rewarding career options. The difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship is that a traineeship can be either a full time or part time employment based training arrangement, usually for a nominal duration of 12 months or more, generally in a non-trade related area.
