Welcome Days and Orientation Semester 1 2024

Welcome to South Metropolitan TAFE, and congratulations on enrolling!

Before you start studying, you can get ready for the semester by logging into the Student Hub or attending one of our Welcome Days and checking your Orientation information.

Welcome Days

Starting as a new student or at a new campus can be scary, so why not pop in before classes start and get some hands-on help navigating life at SM TAFE. Welcome Days are happening at Rockingham, Thornlie and Murdoch campuses over January on the below dates:

Rockingham campus
Friday, 12 January, 10am -2pm  | Campus map (opens in a new tab)

Thornlie campus
Friday 19 January, 10am - 2pm | Campus map(opens in a new tab)

Murdoch campus
Thursday 25 January 10am - 2pm | Campus map(opens in a new tab)

Staff will be there to help you with:

  • Understanding your timetable
  • Secure parking permits and how to get to campus
  • Complete a Transperth SmartRider application
  • Get your photo taken for your Student ID card
  • Campus tour
  • Introduction to our online platforms
  • Meet services that can assist you throughout your studies
  • Talk through any concerns and questions you have for your first day

These events are optional to attend, and aimed at helping you get rid of any first day nerves and help you get organised for TAFE.

To get your timetable earlier, we recommend you attend one of the first two sessions at the Rockingham or Thornlie campuses. This may assist you with organising childcare, work or other personal arrangements for when you start TAFE. There is no requirement to attend the same campus as where you are studying.

For any queries regarding the Welcome Days, please contact the Student Success team: studentsuccess@smtafe.wa.edu.au | 1800 001 001

Orientation

When we are close to semester start you will be able to find information about your orientation at the end of this page.

If your course is not listed, please refer to your timetable as your first day of TAFE will be your orientation session. You will also need to check the "Study Requirements" tab of your course page for information on what to bring on your first day of TAFE.

Please visit campuses for important information such as the campus map, student facilities and transport options. Please note that parking is limited and we strongly suggest that you consider the use of public transport

Please note: Orientation days are subject to change.
