Student access

Student Portal changes from January 2019

If you're planning to progress to your next qualification or continue enrolling into your next semester of units in your current qualification, changes to our systems will impact your access from January 2019.

What is Student Portal?

Student Portal is a one-stop-shop for SM TAFE students to:

  • Access student email in Office 365 where all important official communication is sent
  • View study results
  • Access an overview of current unit enrolments and planned units in the study plan
  • View finances and make a course payment
  • Login to the online course learning environment, Blackboard
  • Register, update and reset student password via Office 365
  • Access your timetabling via your Office 365 calendar
Why are we changing our systems?

We're centralising all our systems to be better able to serve you.

We've replaced multiple legacy systems with one system called 'ciAnywhere'. The new system manages your contact details, applications, enrolments, financial arrangements, access to units of study and study plan, right through to assignment submission, grading and completion, all in the one handy, mobile responsive application.

What has changed?

MyCampus is still available until end February, but no updates have been made from 7 December, meaning over time the system has degraded. Your units, records and results, plus access to essential services and links will remain, but any new work you do or your new units of study will not be reflected there.

Instead, if you have successfully enrolled into your next course or next units, your access to the new Student Portal is now via the methods below.

If you are advancing to your next qualification (i.e. graduating a Certificate IV and starting a Diploma) or are continuing into your next units of study in the same qualification

  • If you have an active SM TAFE College account (you studied in Semester 2, 2018), you will be able to access the new Student Portal using your regular user name and password for Office 365.
  • If you studied in Semester 1 but did not study in Semester 2 (you completed your study more than 85 days prior to your successful re-enrolment), you will be issued an email within 24-48 hours after successful re-enrolment with your login details to access Office 365, where you will need to change your password before accessing the new Student Portal

You can still enjoy access to Blackboard and Office365. Both these systems are unaffected. In addition, our website will continue throughout the transition to provide you information about fees, payment options, forms, policies, enrolment information and key dates.

How to access Student Portal

New students (without an SM TAFE IT account)

Within 24-48 hours of your successful enrolment you will be sent an email with your account details (login and password) which will provide access to SM TAFE systems including student email, Office 365, Blackboard, Student Portal and Library systems.

If it is more than 48 hours since your successful enrolment, please check your junk mail folder, and look for an email from 'DTWD'. The email cannot be reissued as it is automated by your enrolment status in our systems. If you believe your email has been lost, you can try to use your login details as:

User Name: SM TAFE Student ID number
Password: TafeDDMMYYYY
(Replace DDMMYYYY with your date of birth)

For example, if your Student ID is 30000123 and your default Office 365 password is your birth date of 1 January 1972 your Student Portal logon details would be:

User Name: 30000123
Password:   Tafe01011972

To see step by step instructions for accessing the new Student Portal, download our login user guide for new students.

If you are still having difficulties accessing the system, call 1800 001 001, email info@smtafe.wa.edu.au and have your student ID handy.

Continuing and advancing students (with an SM TAFE IT account)

Your password and login details will not change if you are continuing on the same course or have enrolled in a new course.

To see step by step instructions for accessing the new Student Portal, download our login user guide for current students.

If you have tried your current login details and are still having issues, try re-setting your password in Office 365. (Note passwords must be changed in Office 365 not the Student Portal.)

If it is more than 48 hours since your successful enrolment and you are still having difficulties accessing the system, call 1800 001 001 or if you have another email account, email info@smtafe.wa.edu.au and have your student ID handy.

Returning students who have already visited the new Student Portal in 2019 can use these handy step-by-step instructions:

Log into Student Portal (on and off campus) using your user name and password as follows:

User Name: SM TAFE Student ID number
Password:    Your new Office 365 password

For example, if your Student ID is K123456 and your new Office 365 password is Hello123#, your Student Portal logon details would be:

User Name: K123456
Password:   Hello123#

Having trouble logging in?

If you are having trouble logging into Office 365, please remember your login details are your Student ID, followed by '@tafe.wa.edu.au'. When logging into Student Portal, your login is simply your Student ID.

If you have forgotten your password, use the 'Password Manager' to reset your password on https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com. You will then be able to reset your password to gain access to Office 365 and Student Portal.

Alternatively, talk to our librarians on campus or call 1800 001 001 for further password assistance.
