Student portal

Student Portal, your key to study at SM TAFE

Student Portal is a place to springboard to your other online tools such as Blackboard, Office 365, the library website or many handy locations on the SM TAFE website for students.

Login to Student Portal

Returning students who have already visited Student Portal can use the below step-by-step instructions.

Log into Student Portal (on and off campus) using your user name and password as follows:

User Name: SM TAFE Student ID number
Password: Your new Office 365 password

For example, if your Student ID is K123456 and your new Office 365 password is Hello123#, your Student Portal logon details would be:

User Name: K123456
Password:   Hello123#

Login to Student Portal(opens in a new tab)

New students should find out more about Student Portal below before you begin as you will need to use the instructions in your email first, then reset your password, ready for regular use of your account.

Student Portal is a one-stop-shop for SM TAFE students to:

  • Access student email in Office 365 where all important official communication is sent
  • View study results
  • Access an overview of current unit enrolments and planned units in the study plan
  • View finances and make a course payment
  • Login to the online course learning environment, Blackboard
  • Register, update and reset student password via Office 365
  • Access your timetabling via your Office 365 calendar

New students (without an SM TAFE IT account)

Within 24-48 hours of your successful enrolment you will be sent an email with your account details (login and password) which will provide access to SM TAFE systems including student email, Office 365, Blackboard, Student Portal and Library systems.

If it is more than 48 hours since your successful enrolment, please check your junk mail folder, and look for an email from 'DTWD'. The email cannot be reissued as it is automated by your enrolment status in our systems. If you believe your email has been lost, you can try to use your login details as:

User Name: SM TAFE Student ID number
Password: TafeDDMMYYYY
(Replace DDMMYYYY with your date of birth)

For example, if your Student ID is 30000123 and your default Office 365 password is your birth date of 1 January 1972 your Student Portal logon details would be:

User Name: 30000123
Password:   Tafe01011972

If you are still having difficulties accessing the system, call 1800 001 001, email info@smtafe.wa.edu.au and have your student ID handy.

Continuing and advancing students (with an SM TAFE IT account)

Your password and login details will not change if you are continuing on the same course or have enrolled in a new course.

To see step by step instructions for accessing the new Student Portal, download our login user guide for current students.

If you have tried your current login details and are still having issues, try re-setting your password in Office 365. (Note passwords must be changed in Office 365 not the Student Portal.)

If it is more than 48 hours since your successful enrolment and you are still having difficulties accessing the system, call 1800 001 001 or if you have another email account, email info@smtafe.wa.edu.au and have your student ID handy.

If you are having trouble logging into Office 365, please remember your login details for Office 365 are your Student ID, followed by '@tafe.wa.edu.au'. When logging into Student Portal, your login is simply your Student ID.

If you have forgotten your password, use the 'Password Manager' to reset your password:

You will then be able to reset your password to gain access to Office 365 and Student Portal.

If you have changed your verification email address or phone number you may find it handy to update them first, before using the Password Manager reset link above. Go here first:

Alternatively, talk to our librarians on campus or call 1800 001 001 for further password assistance.

If you need to update your student contact details and are having trouble logging in to do so on Student Portal, please use the form below and return completed to a Customer Service Centre on campus.
