Applicants must hold a G Class gas permit from Energy Safety W.A.

This course will train and assess students in the skills and knowledge required to competently service Type A gas appliances.

Students completing this course can apply to Energy Safety W.A. to have 'Servicing' endorsed on their G Class permit.

Students will need to conduct self-directed computer based training using Blackboard.

Course Outline:

  • basic electrical theory 
  • characteristics of electromotive force (EMF) 
  • characteristics of fuses
  • circuit breakers
  • residual current devices and earthing systems 
  • combustion characteristics and effects 
  • conduction 
  • current flow 
  • ignition systems 
  • insulation 
  • isolation procedures 
  • Ohm's law 
  • burners and burner adjustment 
  • characteristics of conversion from one gas type to another 
  • classification of appliances and identification of related components 
  • electrical safety, including isolation procedures and requisite precautions 
  • gas appliance regulators 
  • gas appliance thermostats 
  • gas safety, including:
  • combustion characteristics and effects 
  • isolation procedures 
  • job safety analysis (JSA) and safe work method statements (SWMS) 
  • operation of flame failure systems used in Type A gas appliances

Duration 80 to 150 hours depending on existing skills. Two weeks full-time 07:45 - 16:15 Extra support to students available as negotiated with lecturers.

    • Group 1 - Monday 4/3/19 to Friday 15/3/19
    • Group 2 - Monday 5/8/19 to Friday 16/8/19
  • Gas Servicing Night Class:
    • Group 1 - 4pm - 8pm, Tuesdays 5/5/19 to 25/6/19
    • Group 2 - 4pm - 8pm, Thursdays 25/7/19 to 12/12/19
