Coded Pressure Pipe Welding To AS1796 - Practical And Theory

If you wish to obtain Welder Certification Code to AS1796, this is the course for you. With the necessary industry welding experience and welding trade qualifications as a prerequisite, you could be classified as a fully Coded Welder in AS1796 Certificates 1 to 9. You will also need to have successfully completed the AS1796 theory components.

This standard relates to boiler and pressure vessel welding therefore candidates need to be highly experienced welders with previous experience in welding to procedures and have undergone welder qualification testing. Students who successfully complete the practical and theoretical assessments can apply to receive Weld Australia Certification in one AS1796 Certificate 1 – 9 to cover SAW, GTAW, FCAW, GTAW and MMAW pipe and plate. 

  • For AS1796 you will need to complete theory assessments which can be undertaken outside of this course.
  • You will be given instructions on the practical code requirements
  • All welds will undergo visual and non-destructive testing assessed by WTIA approved Assessors.
  • Dates will be set for Practical Examination.
  • Candidates will need to provide photo ID and documented work history in high level welding.

It is a condition of participation for this course that dress requirements are met each week. Failure to comply will result in students not being able to participate. To meet safety and health related legislation safety goggles, safety boots, long sleeved shirt and pants must be work at all times.

Nationally recognised competency is available to those who meet all pre-requisites but is not required by Weld Australia for Certification. 

This course is a pathway to AS1796 -2001 Certificate 10 (Weld Supervisor)

Your qualification prepares you for roles such as:

As a result of attending this program, participants should be able to:
·         Obtain employment in the welding industry as a coded welder.
·         Could be eligible to be recognised by the Welding Technology Institute of Australia if you complete the AS 1796 Code requirements.
·         If you do complete the AS 1796 Code you will be eligible to enrol in the Welding Supervisors and Inspectors courses.
