This short course gives you additional specialized eye makeup techniques following on from the Makeup Artistry skills set at SM TAFE. It enables you to work as a freelance makeup artist or in a hair and beauty salon performing makeup. Students are required to have completed a makeup course to have basic makeup knowledge before enrolling into this course.

Course outline:

  • Cut creases on eye lids and surrounding area
  • Lower lash line cut
  • Advanced Eye liner techniques
  • Advanced lash application
  • Refresh on colour wheel and colour harmony

Students in this course use MAC Cosmetics, Kryolan and Dermalogica skincare.

On successful completion of this short course students will achieve a Participation Certificate.

Students are required to provide models, this will be advised by your lecturer prior to your first class. Students are also required to practice their skills at home during this course.

Course requirements:

  • Makeup brushes are to be supplied by the student from previous makeup course
  • All products are provided for each class. MAC, Kryolan and Dermalogica.
  • Students are required to bring a black hand towel, tweezers, wear black pants and black top with enclosed shoes
  • Hair must be tied back neatly and professional presentation of makeup is required
  • Students are recommended to bring a camera or mobile phone to take before and after photos
  • Models will be required for practical classes – this information will be provided by your lecturer
  • Students will be supplied with learning material via Blackboard

Dermaplaning is a growing treatment within salons and dermal clinics due to its amazing and visible results. Dermaplaning is the use of a single use, sterile surgical scalpel/blade to manually remove fine vellus hair and excess dead skin cells of the stratum corneum to enable increased penetration of products and treatments leaving the skin smooth and glowing.

Dermaplaning can treat a variety of skin concerns including fine lines, dull skin, dry skin, blocked pores and lifted pigmentation and leaves the epidermis intact without damage to the stratum corneum.

The Laser Safety Officer Certificate is a prerequisite for laser licensing in Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania and is required to gain laser licensing exemptions for use of laser in treating patients.

This is a theory-based online course about the health and safety guidelines of IPL and Laser treatment and the required safety standards as outlined by the Radiation Safety Act 1999.

The unit is government accredited and recognised by the Western Australia Radiological Council as a laser safety course. Non-medical practitioners may be able to use lasers for cosmetic procedures with a current exemption licence. An exemption licence still requires an application to the Radiological Council and an exemption certificate to be issued.

The unit reflects the safety guidelines, for a broad range of clinic intense pulsed light and laser dermal applications, expressed in the following Australian and New Zealand safety standards:

  • AS/NZS 4173:2018 Safe use of lasers and intense light sources in health care
  • AS/NZS IEC 60825.1:2014 Safety of laser products – Part 1: Equipment classification and requirements
  • AS/NZS 1336:2014 Eye and face protection – Guidelines.

The use of intense pulsed light and laser is subject to legislation, regulation and licensing in some Australian states and territories. 

Gain these skills:

  • Identify health and safety requirements for intense pulsed light and laser hair reduction treatments
  • Assess and control safety risks in the treatment environment
  • Assess and control safety risks to practitioner and client
  • Respond to health and safety risks in the IPL/LASER environment

Skin Needling, also referred to as; Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI), Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), Dermal Rolling or Dermal Stamping all involve creating a microscopic pin-prick wound with a needle device creating tiny channels into the epidermis engaging the body’s natural wound healing response. Skin Needling is a procedure for the reduction of wrinkles, thin skin density, hyper-pigmentation, photoageing, scars, and stretch marks.

Skin Needling leaves the epidermis intact without damage to the stratum corneum. It promotes wound healing while encouraging an even deposition of collagen and elastin.
