New mobile mining equipment to benefit apprentices

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

South Metropolitan TAFE’s heavy vehicle mechanical training area has become the grateful recipients of new mobile mining equipment thanks to a recent donation from Byrnecut Australia.

The two Sandvik TB60 rollovers, two Atlas cab lift cylinders, a Caterpillar transmission and an Atlas MT6020 drop box, will be used to assist in training mobile plant mechanic apprentices.

The apprentices will pull apart, inspect, diagnose, and reassemble, adding realism to their theory and practical training.

This gives the students an ideal opportunity to see exactly what is inside of the components and determine why the components require replacing.

This contribution complements the growing collection of contemporary mining equipment now housed at the Thornlie campus, including the 'Jumbo' development drill donated by underground mining service employer Barminco delivered earlier in the year.
