South Metropolitan TAFE (SM TAFE) has partnerships and agreements to deliver qualifications offshore in other countries such as Mauritius, and to international students studying on our campuses. Opportunities also include providing professional development to international delegations. SM TAFE has significant experience in developing and delivering training solutions to offshore clients in China, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
SM TAFE has a flexible approach and extensive expertise in offshore training including designing and developing training solutions in a number of ways. SM TAFE can:
- deliver selected skill sets/micro-credentials from the Australian vocational qualifications to students in partnership with local training institutes in the country.
- provide a training needs analysis relevant to the selected industry.
- provide an assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (termed Recognition of Prior Learning RPL) to determine any credit awarded towards an Australian vocational qualification.
- develop and deliver world-class teaching, learning and assessment resources aligned to industry standards.
- design and implement national or industry frameworks to assess competency.
- deliver teacher training programs to provide skills for competency-based teaching either face-to-face in the country or via online technologies.

Partnerships and projects examples
Offshore partnership with Charles Telfair Campus (CTC)
The offshore partnership with Charles Telfair Campus (CTC), based in Mauritius, has been ongoing since 2005 and has produced over 4,500 SM TAFE graduates. At CTC in 2023, 185 students enrolled in various SM TAFE qualifications including three business qualifications (Certificate III, IV and Diploma of Business), the new Diploma of International Children Services, and the 52895WA Certificate IV in Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies.
Maritime Instructor Training Program
We delivered specialist training to members from the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard Command Training Centre in a five-week Maritime Instructor Training Program. Read the article on our website to learn more.
Agreement with Clough Wood
Signed an agreement with Clough Wood to provide the PMA20116 Certificate II in Process Plant Operations to their Timorese personnel from their Santos’ Bayu Undan facility (with local SM TAFE students).
Western Australia Zhejiang Higher Vocational Education Consortium in 2022
The signing of the Western Australia Zhejiang Higher Vocational Education Consortium in 2022 for the successful joint Professional Development (PD) staff training programs in 2023 in conjunction with North Metropolitan TAFE to over 200 Zhejiang Provincial lecturing staff.
