Informed Choices - Events and Tourism

To make an informed choice about the suitability of a course, you must consider the essential skills and knowledge, in addition to the critical aspects of assessment of that course.  

Please review the inherent requirements listed below and determine whether you might experience challenges in meeting them. If you think you might experience challenges related to your disability, health condition or for any other reason, you should discuss your concerns with the Program Area, a Student Services Staff member or a Disability Access and Equity Officer.

Core Requirements

 Reading skills 

  • Interpret event production documentation and schedules

Oral communication skills

  • Communicate with clients, event coordinators and managers
  • Participate in discussions using listening and questioning techniques

Initiative and enterprise skills

  • Identify responsibilities of own role and follow protocols and procedures
  • Coordinate own workflow for processing and monitoring registrations within deadlines
  • Manage own speed and timing to meet designated timeframes for event set-up, operation and break-down

Teamwork skills 

  • Establish and build rapport and relationships with others
  • Work with venue or site personnel for smooth service delivery to attendees

Planning and organising skills 

  • Plan and organise work commitments to ensure deadlines and objectives are met
  • Prepare and check event resources in advance of events

Technology skills

  • Process event registrations
  • Navigate the online learning platform, Blackboard

Numeracy skills 

  • Interpret payment details
  • Calculate the required production resources

Physical ability 

  • Participate in First Aid training, including kneeling to demonstrate CPR techniques
