Students received a fully funded scholarship and are also employed with Programmed whilst completing units selected to suit the role of a Maintenance Support Technician with BHP in the Pilbara region.
The Program accepts applications from those who are either Female or of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Now in its 4th consecutive year, the Program has successfully trained more than 60 participants, all who have completed the training program have gone on to work with BHP in various roles or placed into other roles across various sectors.
The mentoring and wrap around support provided staff at the Jobs and Skills Centre has been crucial to the success of the Program.
Women in Engineering
Delivered in partnership with Chevron Australia, the Women in Engineering program has been operating since 2010. With an annual intake, it provides women with fully funded scholarships and essential foundation skills for gaining employment in Western Australia’s oil and gas and resources industry, or a pathway to higher level qualifications.
One of the key focuses of the Women in Engineering Program is to provide women with an insight into the experience of engineering from a female’s perspective and to address challenges and hurdles that could discourage women from entering an engineering career.
This partnership has been able to provide help for women to learn the skills required for employment in the resources industry. Results have shown that this program has given women a great opportunity to gain excellent technical/engineering careers in the resources sector.
Delivered from SM TAFE’s Munster campus, participants gain Certificate level qualifications in Process Plant Operations and Process Manufacturing.
Essential Eight Assessment Course – TAFEcyber and Australian Signals Directorate Partnership
The Essential Eight Assessment Course (E8) has been designed by the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD/ACSC) and is delivered in partnership by TAFEcyber. The E8 uses a blend of specialist knowledge, experience, and hands-on technical training to enable cyber security and ICT professionals to understand the ACSC’s Essential Eight Assessment Guidance Package and the Essential Eight Maturity Model. These skills and knowledge will enable participants to effectively assess and improve their organisation’s cyber security posture.
SM TAFE leads the national TAFEcyber Consortium of 11 TAFE colleges. The ASD/ACSC partnership enables TAFEcyber colleges to deliver the E8 certification to their Cyber Security lecturers, and to deliver the E8 to cyber security and ICT professionals in their respective jurisdictions. In Western Australia, the Office of Digital Government has enrolled staff in the Essential Eight Assessment Course to build cyber security capability in Western Australian Government agencies.
