Course Requirements for Semester 1, 2019

Minimum course completion:

  • Students must complete at least 50% of a higher education course within the South Metropolitan TAFE higher education learning environment to graduate with a South Metropolitan TAFE higher education qualification.
  • Students must successfully complete all sixteen of the required subjects (as per subject completion) to meet the completion requirements of an Associate Degree course.

The normal study periods:

  • full-time students will complete the course in 2 years studying 4 subjects per semester
  • part-time students will complete the course in 4 years studying 2 subjects per semester

Maximum study periods:

  • Full-time students = normal full time duration + 100% normal full time duration
  • Part-time students = normal part time duration + 100% normal part time duration

Any exceptions to the above rules must be approved by the Academic Board.

Each subject will consist of:

  • a total of 10 hours study time per week consisting of ;
  • 3.5 hours of classroom contact, and
  • 6.5 hours of personal study time.
  • One subject is represented as 3 credit points which equate to 0.125 Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL)

Important dates in Semester 1, 2019:

  • The Administration Date for finalising enrolment details is 22 February 2019
  • The Census Date for calculating a student’s EFTSL in Semester 1 2019 is 1 March 2019

Subject completion

To gain a pass in a higher education subject a student must attempt every summative assessment and gain a minimum mark of 50% in the subject overall.
