AMPA Coxswain External

This course is for seafarers who have gained the qualification to coxswain on commercial vessels up to 12 metres long and need to complete your AMPA assessment to gain a Certificate of Competency from AMSA.

After completing a Coxswain External course an AMSA Mandated Practical Assessment (AMPA) will need to be completed to gain a Certificate of Competency from AMSA. To qualify to enrol in this course you must have completed the Coxswain External course.

The National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D—Crew Competencies requires that a seafarer pass this final assessment prior to the issue of a certificate of competency.  The AMSA Mandated Practical Assessment (AMPA) is the practical assessment of your operational skills and knowledge, and knowledge of Australian maritime legislation.

Vehicle construction and repair is a diverse trade requiring a broad range of skills. Vehicle Construction and Repair workers manufacture, modify and repair a wide range of purpose built heavy and light commercial vehicle bodies, trailers, chassis and components. These include buses, vans, tipping bodies, cabs, semi trailers, mining vehicles, heavy haulage, light vehicles, tankers, recovery vehicles and personnel carriers.

Trades people in this industry use a vast variety of materials such as steel, aluminium, sheet metal, plastic, fiberglass, wood, rubber, glass and box sections and channel. South Metropolitan TAFE has a Boeing 737 which will be used for the majority of your practical training. The fun begins with practical exercises such as evacuating down a slide, simulated cabin fires with a smoke machine, firefighting, ditching and life raft training. You will have hands on instruction in the full-length cabin with business and economy class seating, fully operational galleys, cabin service equipment and PA system.

Graduates of this course have successfully gained employment with both regional and international airlines as cabin crew members. Students should also be fit and healthy in order to successfully complete the airlines emergency procedure training. A prerequisite for the course is the ability to swim a minimum of 50 metres, unaided and fully clothed. Students must provide a swimming certificate in order to demonstrate they meet the prerequisite and can therefore participate in the water training exercises.
