Transmit and Receive Information by the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System Skill Set

This is a fully accredited course of study and instruction for the GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GMDSS GOC), complying with National and International Standards. Our course meets the requirements of Marine Orders Part 6 (AMSA), is fully accredited by AMSA and audited annually.

The GMDSS GOC is a statutory requirement for bridge watchkeepers of sea going vessels over 300 gross tonnes, and for all persons involved in the operation of live GMDSS equipment. This course is structured on a combination of theory and practical exercises using both ‘live to air’ equipment and simulations. It is delivered by fully qualified and accredited lecturers with deck officer or radio officer experience.

Permits persons who hold a GMDSS GOC, but do not satisfy AMSA’s revalidation requirement of 12 months of GMDSS equipment use in the last 5 years, to revalidate their GOC. If you have had 12 months use of GMDSS equipment in the last 5 years, please contact AMSA directly to discuss revalidation of your GOC through them.

This course meets the requirements of STCW and is AMSA approved.

  • Your position will not be confirmed until payment has been received.
  • Course positions are limited. 100% attendance is required.
  • Minimum dress standards apply to campus attendance: ie closed in shoes be worn (no sandals, thongs or bare feet), neat casual attire. Shorts and t-shirts are acceptable.

Delivery location, important dates and study options

This course will be offered with a blended, flexible delivery model to enable social distancing measures to be undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic. This approach may include a mix of online and classroom based delivery, as well as practical and work experience placements. Lecturers will provide specific instructions to their student groups on how training will be undertaken.
