This skill set provides the skills and knowledge to prepare for a traineeship in early childhood education and care. 

Gain an understanding of children's learning, provide support in different childcare environments, health and safety, and engage in practical experience through a work placement.

This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The tuition fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA Government for WA residents.

With this skill set, you'll gain an understanding of children’s learning, basic learning support, identifying and responding to children at risk, and workplace health and safety — and much more! It is the perfect steppingstone to start your career in early childhood education and care, preparing you for further training. 

 

  • work within legal requirements.
  • ensure children's health and safety is prioritised.
  • work with children of different backgrounds and cultures.
  • provide support to children in different childcare environments.
  • undertake work placement to apply the practical skills and knowledge you have learned.
  • learn how to work together with children and connect with the natural environment.

 

In order to make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, you must take into account the essential skills and knowledge required to undertake this training.

  • excellent observational skills - to be able to identify changes in behaviour, abilities, and environment.
  • good communication skills to liaise/work with a range of people.
  • good listening and writing skills.
  • be able to deal with physical demands of manual tasks. A good fitness level to be able to lift children and childcare equipment.
  • basic problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to immediate safety risks.
