Our Future Chef Job Ready Program will introduce you to the world of cooking and hospitality.
This course is free for eligible students* and runs for 4 weeks.
In the Introduction to Commercial Cookery skill set you will learn how to prepare and present simple dishes, how to use a range of food preparation equipment and about food safety. Gain real hands on industry experience with work experience in a real commercial kitchen.
Study in specialised facilities
Learn in the real-life setting of our award-winning Bentley Pines Training Restaurant which provides a live, interactive training environment at SM TAFE’s Bentley campus. Students can gain hands-on experience serving and preparing food for members of the public, as well as showcasing their skills planning a menu and advertising special events to the community.

- clean kitchen premises and equipment
- use hygienic practices for food safety
- participate in safe work practices
This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The tuition fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA Government for WA residents.

The Future Chef Job Ready Program is free for eligible students. If you are not eligible you can expect to pay $464.85
However, all students will need to supply their own chef uniform at a cost of approximately $120 and closed-in shoes at your own expense.
If you are eligible for free training you may be able to get financial assistance from your Jobactive provider to purchase these items.
