Whether you're interested in small business, entrepreneurship, large enterprises or specialist roles, our Business and Finance courses encompass a diverse range of specialisations that will give you a solid foundation for advancing your career. Our courses are designed to teach you the fundamentals, while also giving you the necessary problem solving, managerial and organisation skills to thrive in an active marketplace.

Focus your skills on Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, or Sales and Retail, or learn to lead and manage across all areas to ensure your business is organised for ongoing success.

You will learn in our advanced campus facilities that feature specialised business simulators, to ensure students not only gain theoretical skills and knowledge, but also gain essential, hands-on experience. Each campus has an office setup exactly like a normal place of business, and students rotate through each of the roles of the business, completing exercises using documents and processes that support the day-to-day workings of the business.

Acquire the specific accounting techniques that will become the tools of your trade. The Diploma of Accounting will build on your knowledge gained at the Certificate IV level, and will prepare you for accounting positions within larger corporate organisations and growing companies. You will gain a more detailed understanding of day-to-day accounting work through practical training in operational activities.

Completion of the Diploma of Accounting, with passes in prescribed taxation units, satisfies some of the academic requirements for registration as a tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).

If you enjoy accounting and mathematics, have an analytical mind and would like to work in the accounting profession, then our Advanced Diploma of Accounting is for you. Accountants support their clients with regular monitoring, analysis, preparation of documents, reports and accounts, and advice.

Our course is developed under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), in close consultation with and accredited by the Accounting industry’s professional bodies and has an excellent reputation for quality. You will be well on your way to a role as a registered tax agent or assistant accountant – the ideal start to an exciting accountancy career or an alternate pathway to the Bachelor of Accounting for students who have not completed secondary schooling in Australia.

This course has replaced FNS30315 - State ID AWA4.

When you complete the Certificate III in Accounts Administration you'll have skills that employers are looking for, making you ideal for roles in accounts payable and receivable, as a cashier, payroll officer or accounts clerk.

You will gain skills and knowledge in financial transactions, accounts and ledgers, workplace health and safety, financial reports, and payroll. You will have experience in using computerized accounting software including MYOB and XERO.

With industry and government forecasting a modest growth for accounts clerks in coming years, you'll be ready for recruiting.

Full-time attendance is equivalent to three days a week.

This course runs for one semester which means you'll be job ready in no time. You may also want to consider further study to obtain the the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

Aboriginal Leadership program

South Metropolitan TAFE’s Aboriginal Leadership program has been specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) staff aspiring to become leaders and mentors across all sectors of industry. The program aims to assist participants in developing the essential skills and knowledge required to:
