GMDSS Revalidation

GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System)

This course is structured on a combination of theory and practical exercises using both ‘live to air’ equipment and simulations. It is delivered by fully qualified and accredited lecturers with deck officer or radio officer experience.

This course is for Master and Chief Mates and provides candidates with the skills and knowledge to meet Australian Maritime Safety Authority requirements of Marine Order 70 (Seafarer Certification) 2014, Section25A. 

Please note you must hold the following prerequisites for entry onto this course and evidence must be provided upon first day of class:

  • STCW GMDSS Certificate 

This course is  approved by AMSA for the issuance of the following certificate upon successful completion of the course:

  • GMDSS Radio Operators – STCW Code Table A-IV/2

Each course runs for 4 days starting on these dates:

  • Tuesday 28 January
  • Monday 24 February
  • Monday 18 May
  • Monday 27 July 
  • Monday 26 October

Students must be at least 18 years of age.

Students must hold a GMDSS GOC, please bring to your first class.
Important information
Please Note: Your position will not be confirmed until payment has been received. Course positions are limited. 100% attendance is required. Minimum dress standards apply to campus attendance: closed in shoes are to be worn (no sandals, thongs or bare feet) along with neat, casual attire. Shorts and t-shirts are acceptable.
Job opportunities

This course permits persons who hold a GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GOC), but do not satisfy AMSA's revalidation requirement of 12 months of GMDSS equipment use in the last 5 years, to revalidate their GOC.

 

Delivery location, important dates and study options

This course will be offered with a blended, flexible delivery model to enable social distancing measures to be undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic. This approach may include a mix of online and classroom based delivery, as well as practical and work experience placements. Lecturers will provide specific instructions to their student groups on how training will be undertaken.
