This course is a suggested entry point for high school graduates with limited information technology skills or those who have limited industry experience.

This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative where you'll only pay half the course fees until December 2021. Fees are capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course. Find out more

OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate I or Certificate II

Attendance in class

The full-time course is equivalent to 3 days per week across one semester.

At-home study

As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete 25% extra of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research.

You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

Work placement

There is no work placement required for this course.

What you need for your first day of class

On your first day you should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID, stationery (pen and exercise book).

All students will need to supply 1 Terabyte (1 TB) USB 3.0 external drive for storing software images and virtual machine files that are too large for storing on cloud storage.

In addition, the following uniform is required to be worn at all classes:

  • Normal business/computing office attire applies.

On completion of this course you will receive a Certificate III in Information Technology. Your testamur will not be a cyber qualification, but you can choose to continue your cyber security studies with a cyber qualification such as the Certificate IV in Cyber Security.
