Health Services Assistance (assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) (AIN) is a physically demanding career which provides assistance to professional healthcare staff for the care of clients.

You will have direct contact with clients and assist them with personal care, communication, mobility and rehabilitation. You will be required to implement programs and procedures to maximise client well being. Acting as an assistant to a nurse or medical practitioner, your working environment can be varied. You may need to work shift hours and will need to use equipment designed for manual handling. This course has a focus on mental health and includes units for the Assistant in Nursing Specialisation for acute care settings.

In order to make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, you must take into account the essential skills and knowledge required to undertake this study.

The part-time study option is only available to those who have completed the HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. Students who have previously completed the HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance at South Metropolitan TAFE may only require the following two units to complete the HLT33115-AA72 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care):  

  • HLTAIN001 Assist with nursing care in an acute care environment
  • HLTAIN002 Provide non-client contact support in an acute care environment

 The upgrade course will be delivered at Murdoch Campus over 9 Thursdays from 8:00-13:30 - with a start date 01/02/2024 through to 28/03/2024.

 Placement is scheduled for the following two weeks 08/04/2024 to 19/04/2024.

You will be required to complete both weeks of placement, as you must have completed 80 hours of placement performing the duties of an AIN to qualify.

This course requires flu and COVID-19 vaccination, medical test, NDIS/health clearance, police clearance and working with children check prior to work placement. See the important information tab for instructions.
