Introduction to Aged Care

The Certificate II in Introduction to Aged Care (Pre-Traineeship) will provide you with the basic industry specific skills and knowledge for the aged care sector or a traineeship within the Community Services sector at the Certificate III level.

The program will give you a taster of working in the industry, help you confirm if the career is right for you, and increase your chances of continuing onto further study or employment within the industry. This is 3 month course run in Thornlie that includes 100 hours work placement at an Opal Aged Care facility.  OPAL_PORTRAITtransparent.png

Pre-entry evaluation and an interview with our lecturers will take place prior to enrolment to ensure that you can successfully undertake the qualification, including an assessement of your language literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.

School Leaver Non-School Leaver AQF
OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate I or Certificate II

    
We will evaluate your literacy and numeracy skills prior to enrolment to ensure that you have the minimum literacy and numeracy skills to complete this study successfully. The minimum skills required are level 2 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). If your skills are lower than level 2 you will be provided with literacy and numeracy support while you study this qualification.

Course requirements

Work placement is mandatory for completion of this course. We will arrange the within industry for you which will involve 100 hours at Opal Aged Care facility.

Delivery location, important dates and study options

This course will be offered with a blended, flexible delivery model to enable social distancing measures to be undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic. This approach may include a mix of online and classroom based delivery, as well as practical and work experience placements. Lecturers will provide specific instructions to their student groups on how training will be undertaken.
