GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System)

This course is structured on a combination of theory and practical exercises using both ‘live to air’ equipment and simulations. It is delivered by fully qualified and accredited lecturers with deck officer or radio officer experience.

During this 4 week “Introduction to Millinery” course you will learn how to block, shape, and manipulate wool felt.

You will learn the basics of couture hat making:

• How to stiffen, steam and stretch felt over a wooden block
• How to wire a hat to ensure it holds its shape
• How to attach a hat using wire, headband, combs, and elastics
• How to use materials in an efficient and economical way
• After blocking a hat, you will proceed onto trimming and decorating
• All students will complete one (maybe 2!) hat to take away.

All students will gain invaluable millinery skills, allowing them to make hats on their own.

Courses offer a combination of theory and practical sessions involving direct lectures from trained medical practitioners. This course meets the requirements of STCW and is AMSA approved.

A Marine Engine Driver (Motor) Grade 1 Certificate allows a holder to take charge of the machinery on vessels less than:

• 525kw (35QN) propulsion power engaged in operations in any area; or750kw (50QN) propulsion power engaged in operations up to Australian Coastal - Middle Water Limits (600nm), or
• 1500kw propulsion power engaged in operations up to Inshore limits (15nm).

This certificate also allows the holder to be second-in-charge of machinery on vessels less than:

• 525kw (35QN) propulsion power engaged in Australian Coastal - Middle Water Limits (600nm)
• 750kw (50QN) propulsion power engaged in operations up to Australian Coastal - Middle Water Limits (600nm)
• 1500kw propulsion power engaged in operations up to Offshore Limits (600nm); or
• 1500kw propulsion power

Are you required to maintain currency of your course-associated medical certificate?

Under the standards in the STCW, there is no requirement for revalidation of elementary first aid, medical first aid, and medical care certificates. However Maritime Labour Convention 2006, Regulation 4.1, Guideline B4.1 Medical care on board ship and ashore states:

• Persons referred to in paragraph 1 of this guideline and any such other seafarers as may be required by the competent authority should undergo, at approximately five-year intervals, refresher courses to enable them to maintain and increase their knowledge and skills and to keep up-to-date with new developments.

If your employer has determined it is necessary for seafarers under the Maritime Labour Convention, this course is ideal for you.

This course provides essential training for deck officers who have insufficient sea time in the last five (5) years to revalidate their Australian Certificate of Competency (COC) issued by AMSA (2nd Mates, Mates or Masters) as required by Marine Orders Part 3.

This course meets the requirements of STCW as revised by Manila Amendments 2010, and is AMSA approved.

Seafarers who satisfy the sea time requirements of AMSA for the last 5 years, may only be required to demonstrate continued competence in fire fighting and sea survival, by attending the two day refresher course. The aim of this course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to understand the capability and limitations of ECDIS as used during a navigational watch, to operate, interpret and analyse information obtained from ECDIS, and manage ECDIS operation, system files and data. This course meets the requirements of STCW as revised by Manila Amendments 2010, and is AMSA approved. It also meets the requirements of IMO Model 1.27 (2012).

There is a written and practical assessment, and students receive an  ECDIS certificate upon course completion.

This short course will train students in how to make fans and apply 3d to 5d hybrid and volume lashes for added length and thickness of natural lashes. This course has been designed to meet the beauty industry demand for lash extensions to work in the industry.
