NAIDOC Week runs from 3 – 11 July 2022 and NAIDOC week celebrates the rich culture and heritage of Indigenous Australians, whilst commemorating Indigenous history and uniting communities across Australia.
This year’s theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! which recognises the historic resistance of Indigenous people and encourages communities to continue the fight for justice and rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
At South Metropolitan TAFE we are proud of our connection with the Whadjuk and Gnaala Karla peoples as the traditional custodians of the ancestral lands our campuses are situated on.
We are also very proud of our commitment to supporting all Aboriginal students to successfully complete their studies. This is achieved by offering free and voluntary support for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from our Student Support team.
1. Study support
3. Referrals to Aboriginal counselling services and community health services.
To celebrate NAIDOC week, South Metropolitan TAFE will be holding a NAIDOC celebration on 22 September at our Rockingham campus when students return to study in Semester 2 2022.
Meet Su - Nami
Su-nami Matsumoto, a proud Yawuro woman from Broome, has taken out the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award at South Metropolitan TAFE (SM TAFE). It was her passion for the ocean and marine wildlife, that was enough of a drive to see her enrol and complete the Certificate III in Aquaculture through to the diploma, at South Metropolitan TAFE.
