Automotive Maintenance Introduction

Ideal for first car owners, participants will learn basic automotive tasks such as checking oil and changing tyres. The course will include general theory on engines and brakes.

This is an introductory short course that covers 

  • terminology, including occupational health and safety and the correct use of tools.
  • Checking the condition and changing of tyres.
  • Basic engine theory such as four stroke cycle and timing, oil and filter change.
  • Fuel system, carburettor and injectors.
  • Ignition electronic and points.
  • Cooling system how to flush the radiator and find leaks, check the fan and belts.
  • Braking system monitor the shoes and pads.
  • Exhaust system check for leaks, minor repairs or replacement.
  • Drive train axles, CV and universal joints, clutch, bearings.
  • How to do a tune up - plugs, points, leads etc.
  • Fault finding in your electrical and fuel systems.
  • Electrical system changing globes and fuses.

This course is not accredited and no previous experience is required. 

Taught at our Carlisle automotive workshop by a qualified lecturer, students are welcome to use their own vehicle for demonstration and practical application however they will need to supply their own parts.

Safety boots (steel cap), long sleeved shirt and pants must be worn at all times.
