Peel nursing combo course

South Metropolitan TAFE's unique Peel nursing combo course has been designed in collaboration with Murdoch University to provide students with the opportunity to gain a formal qualification in aged care, while also providing guaranteed entry into a Murdoch University nursing degree.  In your nursing combo year, you will be both a SM TAFE student and a Murdoch University student.

The Certificate IV in Ageing Support CHC43015 qualification you achieve will prepare you for work in adult day centres, or in-home support services. Students can also apply for employment as aides, multi-skilled support workers, nursing assistants, attendant carers or aged care support workers. The Certificate IV in Ageing Support CHC43015 was selected by Murdoch University as an appropriate entry-level course for university studies. The course is designed to provide employment opportunities in aged care for university students while they complete their nursing degree.

Past nursing combo student Liz is now in her second year of a Bachelor of (registered) Nursing. Liz, who is currently working as a nursing assistant, hopes to specialise in orthopedic nursing once she finishes her degree.

“As a mature-aged student with a family, I had reached a time in my life where I felt the need to strive towards my career goal of nursing. I approached SM TAFE to find out about courses available and to my surprise learnt of the combo course, and so began my journey towards nursing. Both the combo course and lecturers inspired and provided me with a strong academic foundation that has been of tremendous value over the course of my studies. The course was both challenging and rewarding and gave me a good foundation in the basics of nursing. I highly recommend anyone seeking a successful career in aged care or nursing enrol in this course. It has been a truly invaluable learning experience for me and I am proud to have been a student at SM TAFE.”
