Student’s ascend into the world of fashion

Last night (23 November) SM TAFE’s fashion students presented their stunning collections at our Aerospace Training Centre in Jandakot; the culmination of an intense three years of study.

More than 600 guests were in attendance, including members of WA’s fashion industry, media, student’s family, friends and staff.

The event was a memorable experience for attendees with models walking the runway in front of a Boeing 737.

Student of the Year Tracee de la Nougerede (TJ the Label) from Parkerville said the show was an important end to the challenging but rewarding course.

“We got to work as one with the lecturers to put the show together and it’s a really nice way to network with people in the industry in the hope to get a job,” Tracee said.

“It’s been great learning and gaining support from SM TAFE staff and mentors that have been in the industry for many years and really understand it.

“The relationships formed help you get through such a crazy year and you realise it’s all worth it in the end when you see the final result.”

SM TAFE Portfolio Manager Andrea Quintal said the show would not be possible without the backing of industry and sponsors.

“These students have learnt from some of the best, with the likes of Zimmermann, Dion Lee, Aurelio Costarella and Ellery among many others providing work placement opportunities,” Ms Quintal said.

“SM TAFE has a rich history in fashion training which stems more than 40 years and we have become recognised as one of the leaders and key providers of quality fashion design and product development training in WA.”

Five awards were also presented on the night, with winning students selected by a panel of local industry judges.
