An information technology networking student has received a scholarship presented by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

The scholarship is aimed at women undertaking a technology related course at a TAFE institution or similar and demonstrating an interest in pursuing a career in broadcasting.  In addition, Deborah will receive four weeks of paid employment in Technology areas of the ABC plus a $1,000 book allowance.

Manager of Technology Client Support Western Australia Nola Mylonas presented the Scholarship.

“The ABC Women in Broadcast Technology Scholarships highlight broadcasting as an area of prospective employment for female engineering and technology students. It provides the opportunity for women to gain a broad range of technical knowledge and experience in the broadcast industry while working at the ABC in Perth,” she said.

“These scholarships aim to introduce women to the possibilities of careers in broadcast and media technology and give talented women an opportunity to develop their technical and professional skills."

Deputy General Manager Technology Margaret Cassidy also congratulated Deborah on her success in gaining a scholarship.

“The 2017 scholarships were very competitive and I commend Deborah on her outstanding application which demonstrated a strong interest in technology and broadcasting.”

Deborah is currently completing a Certificate IV in Information Technology Networking and entered TAFE as a mature age student.

“I have spent a great deal of time searching for an industry that suits me and cultivates my knowledge, experience and technical skills in IT. The ABC provides a strong foundation …I just love the chance to work for such a wonderful organisation with the bonus of developing my own knowledge within the profession.”
