CERTIFICATE IV IN COMPANION ANIMAL SERVICES

This qualification is the industry qualification for persons operating within a companion animal organisation and wanting to build on their existing skills in the care of a variety of animals in a companion animal facility. It is also suitable for those already employed in small companion animal businesses. Job roles generally involve supervisory responsibility and include pet shop manager, companion animal behaviourist, animal groomer, kennel or cattery manager, animal shelter supervisor, mobile hydro-bath operator.

This course enables you to build on your skills and knowledge for the care of companion animals and the operations of a companion animal facility. It is essential that whilst undertaking this course you have access to a companion animal workplace through either paid employment or significant periods of work placement or work experience. This will allow you to practise what you have learnt and increase your experience working with others in an animal care facility.

By completing this course you will be able to manage compliance in the companion animal industry; monitor and maintain animal health and wellbeing; maintain work health and safety processes for the enterprise; and undertake business-related duties. There are several options to specialise including the care of specific species, operating hydro-bathing operations, preparing and delivering care education programs and animal training.

Pre-requisites:

Achievement of ACM30310 Certificate III in Companion Animal Services and/or significant vocational training and/or work experience across a range of animal work settings. It is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course.

C Grades in Year 11 WACE General English, and OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 11 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate II or Certificate III
