This course will be delivered with a focus on mental health.

At South Metropolitan TAFE, the "Acute Care" stream of Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, is only available at Murdoch Campus.

It will prepare you to become a health care worker that could apply for job roles of Assitant in Nursing (AIN), Health Services Assistant, Patient Care Assistant and Orderly. This is an active physical role that requires the student to gain a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to professional healthcare staff for the care of clients.

You will have direct contact with clients and assist them with personal care, communication, mobility and rehabilitation. You will be required to implement programs and procedures to maximise client well being. Acting as an assistant to a nurse or medical practitioner, your working environment can be varied. You may need to work shift hours and will need to use equipment designed for manual handling at times. Department of Health units are met for acute care settings.

  • Delivered on campus two days per week Tuesday and Thursday classes scheduled from 1030-1730.

You will be required to have the following checks prior to work placement.

  • National Police Clearance (Form available at the post office. Needs to be completed and submitted to post office asap)
  • Working With Children Check (Form will be given to you at orientation)
  • Medical screening and immunisations (Form will be given to you at orientation)
  • Uniform is a requirement for this course (This requirement will be discussed on the first day. Uniform is navy blue scrub top and pants, with closed in shoes.)
